FCM Residency Hershey

Program Director's Welcome

Imagine you're in a training environment where you’re supported, challenged, and encouraged to explore your passions—whether that’s OB, sports medicine, addiction medicine, procedures, or ultrasound. That’s exactly what you’ll find here in Hershey. As a resident in our program, you’ll train in a full-spectrum, academically rich environment that equips you to care for individuals and families across all settings. From inpatient adult and pediatric care to obstetrics and point of care ultrasound, we prepare you to practice independent, comprehensive family medicine. You'll also collaborate with nationally recognized colleagues and benefit from unique training opportunities through our institution’s robust fellowship offerings and academic depth.

As the nation’s first Department of Family and Community Medicine, our program offers a solid foundation built on decades of experience, innovation, and community engagement. We are proud of our nationally recognized curricular strengths in quality improvement, community advocacy, and behavioral health. Our dedicated research division and faculty mentors are here to help you publish, present, and grow as a scholar. We also maintain long-standing relationships with rural and urban underserved communities, and our residents receive protected time to engage meaningfully with these partners through service, clinical care, and advocacy.

All of this is housed in the welcoming, family-friendly town of Hershey—a place where you can unwind after a busy day with a walk on a local trail, a night at Hersheypark, or simply by enjoying the ease of no traffic. Our faculty and staff are not only passionate educators but also kind, approachable, and deeply invested in your growth and wellness. With a no-call system, a supportive culture, and endless opportunities to shape your own path, Penn State offers the best of both worlds: robust, individualized training in a warm, community centered environment.
