Research in Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine is committed to conducting high-quality research with a focus on increasing the understanding of acute presentations of diseases and conditions such as chest pain and cardiovascular distress, traumatic injuries, respiratory illnesses, sepsis, and more. 

Our researchers conduct high-quality, standard-setting research. Current areas of focus include COVID-19 and its impact on patient care, head injury, medical education, prehospital care, and point-of-care laboratory studies. Findings are shared at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed scientific journals to maximally impact the care of patients worldwide. Results have been published in prestigious journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Emergency Medicine, Academic Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Emergency Care, and Prehospital Emergency Care. 

The department fosters ongoing collaborative research in emergency medicine through clinical, technological, and educational initiatives. These initiatives stimulate collaborative work at the local, national, and international levels, with the goal of driving emergency medicine practice toward cutting-edge, evidence-based, compassionate care.
